This week I was back at the Co Lab factory for another immersive show, this time put on by Splutter Theatre. I never really know what to expect on my visits as everything is always so different. Even the space itself is usually completely transformed to match the story being told, this time was no different!
The premise of these shows is that you don’t know what you are getting into, so I won’t spoil anything for you. At the same time, it means you aren’t going to get any clues from this review. This performance puts you into the role of detective trying to solve a string of copy cat murders based on famous serial killers. Part one of the event is a briefing on the situation, and part 2 is playing detective trying to solve the mystery.
I’ve grown tired of escape rooms, but thankfully, the puzzle room element of this show is limited, and actually pretty fun. Even for a large group like ours, as the space is pretty big and easy to move around. The production uses a great mix of props which are authentic and add to the feel of everything. In our group there were a few who took things too far and nearly starting pulling of gas pipe labelling and started reading the prop books in the room for clues. Sometimes it’s best to keep it simple and stick to the obvious though, which is what made this fun.
Overall I had a great time, and would recommend. Don’t worry if you are expecting pop out scares, you’ll survive this. It’s a murder mystery with a horror setting.
